MARTI Marti Myers-Garver, is an Enrolled Agent. EA's are federally authorized tax practitioners who are licensed by the Internal Revenue Service. Established in 1884 by legislation signed into law by President Chester Arthur, Enrolled Agent are private tax practitioners who are licensed by the federal government to practice before all administrative levels of the IRS. This includes all representation matters relating to clients' rights, privileges, and liabilities under laws or regulations administered by the Internal Revenue Service. Enrolled Agents are required to abide by the provisions of U.S. Treasury Department Circular 230 in their practice and, if found in violation, may be suspended or disbarred.Today, Enrolled Agents advise, represent, and prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates, trusts, and any entities with tax-reporting requirements. Each year they work with more than 5 million individual and small business taxpayers. Enrolled Agents receive their designation in one of two ways:
Marti successfully passed the grueling Enrolled Agents exam in 1986. The exam has only a 20% pass rate and over 400 tax questions. She is an active member of various professional organizations including National Association of Enrolled Agents, National Association of Tax Professionals, Nevada Society of Enrolled Agents, California Society of Enrolled Agents and National Council for Taxpayer Advocacy. Marti has been involved with the military her entire life and has lectured extensively on military taxation. Since 1988, she has taught the military Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) class at bases all over the world. She also operated the Nellis VITA Center since until 2004. AFTAC was opened in May 2004. She took a hiatus from AFTAC to manage Columbus AFB's VITA center from December 2005 until June 2006. Marti now back at AFTAC full time, continuing to serve the entire taxpaying community throughout the world.
